Shawl Weaving Artisan - Winding and Warping
warp making process and formation of stripe design and color
Objectives : At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• set up bobbins on a creel
• create colourful stripe patterns while doing drum warping.
Requirements
Tools/Equipment’s/Instruments
• Creel - 1 No. • Scissor small size - 1 No.
• Bobbins - 1 No. • Color pencils - 1 Set.
• Warping drum - 1 No. Materials
• Graph paper - as reqd.
• Measuring tape - as reqd. • Yarn samples in bobbin
3 or more coloured yarn cones
(Red, Blue, Yellow, etc.) - 200
PROCEDURE
TASK 1 : Set up bobbins on the creel
1 Clean the creel and place it near to the warping
drum. Fig 2
2 Inspect the bobbin for any defects or damage.
3 Choose the correct bobbin type and size for the
creel.
4 Stand in front of the creel and locate the appropriate
spindle (peg) for the bobbin.
5 Hold the bobbin firmly with both hands.
6 Place bobbins in the creel in the correct order for
warping. (Fig 1)

8 Guide it through the tensioning devices.
9 Observe proper threading according to the specific
creel setup to maintain tension and alignment.
10 Observe the thread feeds smoothly from the bobbin.
11 Repeat the process for each bobbin.
12 Inspect all bobbins to ensure they are securely
mounted and properly threaded.
13 Once all bobbins are in place and the creel is properly
set up, start the operation.
7 Pull the yarn from the bobbin’s end. (Fig 2)
